Going Home!

Here is Emma's first going home outfit picture! Of course it was super cold when we went home, but at least the roads weren't bad. Addison didn't want to drive fast home -- felt like the movie "Knocked up" at the end of the movie he was going like five mph!!

Two weeks early!

Hello everyone! Sorry for the delay on updating the blog, but our little peanut came a little earlier than expected! We welcomed our daughter, Emma Jane Boughton, on February 6th at 2:29 am. She was born six pounds, one ounce and 18 1/2 inches long. All ten fingers and toes are there!! :) Here is one of the first pics of her on the scale!!

I started having contractions around 10:30 pm on Saturday February 5th and we got to the hospital at 11:30 pm and little miss Emma was born at 2:29 am on Sunday (Super Bowl Sunday -- so she will love sports when she gets older, ha ha) February 6th. The labor was almost perfect (as perfect as a labor could go). It was only a total of 4 hours. All day Saturday I felt great! Addison and I went to the Drake/UNI basketball game Saturday afternoon, ran some errands, and then went to an Iowa Energy bball game at night. We got home around 10:00 pm and I got my pajamas on and we were watching the news when I started not to "feel" very good. I called the dr and they didnt think it was anything to worry about because the contractions weren't to regular, but after I hung up the phone they got a lot stronger so we decided to head on in to the hospital and get it checked out.

When we got to the hospital - I was put into a triage room to assess the "situation" and they saw that my water had broke (not sure when this happened because I didnt feel any water at any time, so who knows! At my last dr's appt I was dilated to a 4 (which was the Thursday before I went into labor), so I was already half way there..so when I got to the hospital they said I was dilated to a 6.

I then walked over to my hospital room and they started a saline drip before I could get an epidural, but in the mean time my contractions were horrible, so they gave me a pain meds through my iv which definitely helped. About 15 min later, the dr came in and gave me my epidural which didn't hurt at all and just really wanted the pain to go away so anything to help speed that process up I was ALL for. The epidural took about 15 minutes to kick in, and then about 5-10 minutes later I was pushing. I pushed for about 45-1 hr, and she wasn't wanting to move down as much as the dr wanted so she suggested that we try a vacuum to help her come out, but they said we would try pushing one more time. Of course, on my last push the little peanut came out! Yeah! :)

She was perfect -- they took her to get assessed and the drs got me all ready and then I got to hold her for the first time. Pic above.

Overall, it was a great night and both Emma and I did great! We were in the hospital from Saturday night through Tuesday afternoon, which the time just went fast! It was great to get home though and of course our dog Zoe was SUPER happy to see us!

Bunting!

Our friends Blake and Katie gave us this bunting for the cold weather, so we thought we should get it installed on our car seat so we are all ready when it comes down to drive to the hospital. It looks great! It is like a blanket so you don't need to layer the baby with warm weather clothes which could overheat her. It should work out perfect!

Bassinet

Addison's co-worker called the other day and asked if we needed a bassinet for baby b, and it was funny because Add and I were just talking about this. We weren't sure if we should get a pack n play because we didnt know if we should have her in our bedroom right away or just go straight to the crib. My first thought was just going to try the crib right away, and I think we are going to try that first. If that doesn't work then we needed a backup plan. We decided to take the bassinet just in case we will need i and we will just give it back when we are done with it! Perfect! I think it will also come in handy down in the basement when we are down there and she is just sleeping, we will see! Here is a picture of the bassinet! Our dog Zoe loves getting into the zipper part in the bottom. ha ha....

Video Monitor

We originally registered for a Sony baby monitor that was just for sound, but Addison was in charge of picking this out and he decided he would rather have a video monitor instead of just a sound monitor. We found a great deal on amazon.com for the Lorex Live Snap Video Monitor. The brand Lorex actually is more known for security cameras, so we thought it would be a safe bet that this would work pretty well. It also has night vision so you can watch her even during the dark in our bedroom. Pretty cool!

Here are some pics of the camera, we hung it right by the bed for the best angle. The monitor we placed in our bedroom on the night stand and it is portable so you can take it with you around the house or if you go away for the weekend. Should come in very handy!

37 weeks!

Here is my 37 week picture! I just had my weekly dr's appt last Thursday and she said I was 4 cm dilated and 75% effaced, so I could pretty much go anytime! I don't think it will be soon though or some reason....maybe at the end of next week. We will see, she still seems pretty high in my belly (up by my ribs). I will keep you all posted!

Driving on...

Addison and I knew it was about time to get a new car before baby b would be coming into our lives well because our 1999 Oldsmobile was about on her last leg and we wanted to make sure we had a safe vehicle to bring home the baby in. We still have our Jeep Grand Cherokee, but we needed a reliable car as well. We had been looking for a car for about the last four months. We knew that we wanted to get a Toyota Camry. Last month we had a guy looking for us and he found one at an auction in Kansas City and it had all of the specifications that we wanted. We decided to put a bind on it and we got it! We got to pick it up about three weeks ago. It drives great and the best thing it has automatic start for these cold Iowa winters! Here are a few pics, sorry not the best quality!
